CLOZE TEST: INSTANT MEMORY

Hello girls!
Here you have a cloze test to practice more for the exam. The key is below the test.
Have a nice weekend!

INSTANT MEMORY

[0] _____ the scene: you have an important exam tomorrow morning. Your future depends [1] _____ it. You stay up all night, drinking endless cups of coffee [2] _____ to memorise four years’ information in twelve hours. Sounds familiar? But imagine you didn’t need to do this. Imagine you could just [3] _____ a pill and immediately remember everything.

A memory pill or any [4] _____ pill that wakes up the brain, is a great idea, not only for students, but for lots of [5] _____ professions. Soldiers, [6] ____ have to function with just a few hours’ sleep, would welcome it. [7] _____ would pilots on long trips, and [8] _____ workers as those who have to work with heavy machines at night as [9] _____ as 37 million people around the world who suffer from Alzheimer [10] _____, an illness that robs people of their memory.

But, are we [11] _____ to finding such a pill? A number of pharmaceutical companies are [12] _____ working on it. They see enormous financial possibilities in a pill that [13] _____ the memory, and laboratories have already [14] _____ testing pills on both animals and humans.

But a memory pill [15] _____ ethical questions too. History tells us that the pill would be used not only by ill people, but also by people who just wanted to remember everyone’s names at parties, or the laziest students. Would it be [16] _____ on poorer students who couldn’t [17] _____ the pill? Would businesses start asking their workers to use them [18] _____ that they performed better? Would we divide quiz shows [19] _____ two types: contestants with brain pills and contestants without?

Medicine and its processes evolve. Often the original purpose [20] _____ lost. This has happened with plastic surgery (originally for soldiers with injuries to the face) and it happened with Prozac. It may happen with cloning. The truth is, we don’t know how a memory pill would affect society.
